📄 PLayStation BB Navigator FAQ(ENG)
📅 28 фев 2026, 11:40
Q: What is the difference between the build from Akuhak/vitas155 and PSBBN DE?
A: PSBBN Definity Edition
This is a build if you just need to play games, easily install games, and have access to online channels.
Supports HDD up to 2TB
Limitations: Does not support installing games in .pkg format, does not support games with official HDD support (cannot install game data or the full game), some online channels are unavailable.

Build from Akuhak/Vitas155
Different menu, more online channels available, full support for games with official HDD support, supports downloading and installing .pkg games from online channels.
Limitations: Does not support HDD larger than 128GB.

Q: Do I need a modchip to install and run PSBBN?
A: No, a modchip is no longer needed. PSBBN is fully hacked and can be installed and run without a chip (this applies to both installation methods).

Q: I wrote the image to the HDD according to the instructions, but PSBBN does not start.
A: Not all hard drives are currently compatible with PSBBN. Try installing again on a different hard drive.

Q: How much space is required on the hard drive to install PSBBN?
A: At least 10GB is required for the build from Akuhak and at least 200GB for PSBBN DE.

Q: When installing PSBBN from the disc, after choosing the first positive response to the installation request, a red screen/error appears. What does it mean?
A: Most likely, this means your HDD is not compatible with PSBBN or is damaged. Try formatting it and repeat the installation, or try a different HDD.

Q: After starting the installation from the disc, while the copying processes are running, a red screen/error appears and the installation process is interrupted; the PS2 reboots.
A: Most likely, this means the PS2 could not read the necessary data from the disc required for installation. Try burning the image to another disc or check the condition of your PS2's laser lens.

Installing applications and games
Q: How do I install my own games and applications in the PSBBN menu?
A: Games and applications in the form of a PS2 disc image can be installed through this... If you don't understand how to use it, ask right here.

Q: How do I add my own cover art to a game?
A: To display a cover in the Game Channel of the PSBBN menu, you need to create a PC. partition for each game. The partition name must exactly match the name of the game partition installed in the PP. partition via HDL Game Installer in HDD OSD. In PSBBN, both partitions will be seen as one whole. Specify the partition size as 128MB.
Next, you need to access the PC. partition from the console and create a folder named res inside it. This folder contains the resource files for games and applications that PSBBN displays; HDD OSD does not use this folder.

File structure in the res folder:
The following files are located in the root of the folder:

jkt_001.png - Image size 256x256, this is your game cover for PSBBN.

jkt_002.png - Image size 256x256, this is your game cover for PSX DVR (do not use this for PSBBN).

jkt_cp.png - Image size 290x46, this is an image file with copyright information. You can add any information here by adding your own picture with the correct name and dimensions.

notice.png - Image size 416x196, a file with brief information about the game or application. You can create your own.

The image folder contains images that are displayed if you select the "Manual" item in the game's context menu.

man.xml - System file. It contains information about the location of the image for the "Manual" item, the name of the game/application, and a link to the background image for the manuals.

Inside the image folder, besides the images for the manual, there is a background image for the manuals. You can replace it with your own; the file must be named 01.png and have a size of 640x480.

Also, the res directory contains the file info.sys. This file contains all the basic information about the installed game or application. It can be edited with a simple notepad.
Structure of the info.sys file:
ini
title = Title of your game or application
title_id = Usually the game ID like SLES-00000 or the partition name if an application is installed instead of a game
title_sub_id = 0 This parameter enables or disables the display of an additional ID. 0 disabled, 1 enabled.
release_date = 20190101 Release date of the game or application
developer_id = SONY The game developer is specified here
publisher_id = SONY The game publisher is specified here
note = sofware Any additional information as you wish, will be displayed in the information section
content_web = http://www.ps-gamers.ru Web address related to your game or application, usually the developer's site
image_topviewflag = 0 It is not yet known what this is. 0 disabled, 1 enabled.
image_type = 0 It is not yet known what this is. 0 disabled, 1 enabled.
image_count = 1 It is not yet known what this is. 0 disabled, 1 enabled.
image_viewsec = 600 It is not yet known what this is.
copyright_viewflag = 1 This item determines whether the file with copyright information will be displayed under the game cover. 0 off, 1 on.
copyright_imgcount = 1 Something related to copyright information, no exact information yet.
genre = Software Genre of your game or application, specify any.
parental_lock = 1 It is not yet known what this is. 0 disabled, 1 enabled.
effective_date = 0 It is not yet known what this is. 0 disabled, 1 enabled.
expire_date = 0 It is not yet known what this is. 0 disabled, 1 enabled.
violence_flag = 0 It is not yet known what this is. 0 disabled, 1 enabled.
content_type = 255 Content type. If set to 261, the game or application will not be displayed in HDD OSD, only in PSBBN.
content_subtype = 0 Indicates an additional content type. It is not yet known how to use it. 1 on, 0 off.
After you have copied all the necessary files to the PP. partition, you need to make it bootable so that you can run your game from PSBBN. Use hdl Dumpx by Akuhak for this; contact him for additional information.

Q: When launching applications or a game disc, a message appears in English asking to wait for the load and not turn off the power, and then everything freezes.
A: It is currently known that the operation of the modchip interferes with launching applications/games from the PSBBN menu and launching discs from there. Disable it, and applications and games from the HDD will start working (this does not apply to unlicensed discs, game discs from another region, or DVD-Videos from another region, since with the chip disabled, the PS2 will not recognize them as native discs). A solution to the problem is currently being sought.

Working with the email client and browser
Q: I enter my email account details in the email client, save the settings, but when I try to check mail, an error message appears.
A: It is currently not known exactly which email services are compatible with this email client. Try setting it up with a different email account (it is currently known that mail.ru works, and there are problems with gmail.com).

Q: I heard that PSBBN has a Netfront 3.0 web browser. How do I use it?
A: Initially, the browser in PSBBN is only intended for setting up the router, but you can also view websites with it. To do this, go to the PSBBN settings, find the network settings, scroll all the way to the right without touching your settings (if the network is not configured, do that first). When prompted to set up the router, answer affirmatively. After a few seconds, the browser will load (to bring up the keyboard in the browser, press Select; you can also use a USB keyboard and mouse).

Q: I'm trying to launch the web browser but only see a black screen.
A: Be patient. Launching the browser can take more than 40 seconds. If the black screen does not disappear for more than a minute, turn off the PS2 by holding the power button and try launching PSBBN and the web browser again.

What are channels and how to use them
Q: What are the channels in the PSBBN menu for?
A: Channels perform different functions:

Video Channel - For watching videos from a disc or HDD.

Music Channel - For listening to music from the HDD or a disc (you can also copy tracks from an Audio CD to the console's HDD).

Photo Channel - Allows you to view images on the HDD and from USB devices.

Game Channel - Allows you to view and launch games installed on the HDD and view installed game data. It also allows you to view special online game channels. Currently available channels are:

Playstation BB Guide (Japanese PSBBN guide)
SCEJ ch. (Analog of the official website of the Japanese Sony division, currently almost non-functional)
KOEI/TECMO Gamecity (Channel about games from Koei and everything related to it and its games)
Hudson Channel (Channel about games from this developer, has flash games you can play without downloading, some game information, and downloadable material)
EA Channel (Channel about games from Electronic Arts)
Playstation. Now! (A mix of the official Playstation site and something like the PS Store)
Namco Ch. (This channel is currently partially working)
Konami Channel (Information about games from Konami, their demos, promotional videos, and news)
Capcom Channel (Information about games and releases from Capcom)
PlayStation NOW! (Predecessor to the PS Store, game catalog with prices and the ability to order by mail, game descriptions, downloadable screenshots, accessory catalog for PS1, PS2, PSP)
Bandai Channel (Information about games from Bandai, game catalog with prices, videos, Bandai tech support)
So-Net Megachannel (One of the provider channels offering their service for internet connection, news about games, movies, downloadable video materials)
Biglobe (Approximately the same as So-Net, currently in the process of restoration. The main menu works.)
Q: How do I access the email client, return to the main menu, view information about PSBBN-0.32, exit to the main menu, or add my own items to it?
A: All this is possible using a special menu called the Navigator Menu. This menu can be called up at any time by pressing the Select button. From this menu, you can do everything listed above. You can only add your own items to this menu for quick access to various programs and games. To add a game or program to the Navigator Menu, go to the Game Channel and your collection of games and their data on the HDD, select the game or application you are interested in, press the Triangle button, there will be an "Add to Navigator Menu" item. Click there, and your selected game or application should appear in the Navigator Menu.

Managing audio, video files, and images

Q: What video formats are supported?
A: Currently, support for PSS and PSM formats is known. Compatibility with other formats is being tested.

Q: What audio formats are supported?
A: Copying tracks from Audio CDs is supported. Support for other formats is being investigated.

Q: What image formats are supported?
A: Currently, support for JPEG/JPG/BMP/PNG is known. Compatibility with other formats is being tested.

Q: How do I transfer images?
A: There are currently few options: copying from USB devices or downloading from special channels via Game Channels.

Q: How do I transfer audio files?
A: Audio files can be copied from Audio CDs or downloaded via a special channel in Game Channels (this function is currently in development).

Q: How do I transfer video files?
A: Currently, the only known method is downloading via a special channel in Game Channels (this method is in development).

Managing saved data, game data, and installed games/applications
Q: How do I view my saves on the memory card or HDD, and what can I do with them?
A: Saved data management is located in the PSBBN settings; there is a saved data management item. You can move and copy them to other memory cards or the HDD, as well as rename them (some saves have copy protection; such saves cannot be moved or copied anywhere).

Q: How can I see the free and used space on the HDD?
A: Currently, there is no way. The developers, for some reason, did not provide such an option.

Q: What is the 1st item in the PSBBN main menu?
A: This is an analog of the online PS3 manual. This manual contains detailed instructions on using PSBBN. Currently, the manual is fully translated into English, moved to a backup server, and available from the Game Channel. The original Japanese manual is also still available via the Game Channel.

Q: I can't run Linux. What should I do?
A: Copy the folder from the archive to the root of the first memory card, then run it as usual from the applications menu in OPL.

This site is dedicated exclusively to PSBBN. If you're interested in the PSX and everything related to it, write here: https://www.ps-gamers.ru/forum/26-257-1
As for translation, how to translate depends on which PSX model you have.
